Abstract

This paper describes the local curriculum on Rejang language, especially on the aspect of local curriculum policies, preparation process, learning implementation and diverse factors that drive and inhibit implementation process of local curriculum learning in Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province. The teaching practice of local curriculum itself is run officially based on Decree of Rejang Lebong Regent, number 309, dated September 12, 2009 entitled Formation Team for Arrangement and Development of Local Curriculum of Rejang Language in Rejang Lebong Regency. However, the application of local curriculum and its entire learning process itself is felt quite late viewed from Indonesian government's policy as to implement the local curriculum in school. Local curriculum of Rejang language began by the creation of Decree of Rejang Lebong Regent on Rejang language curriculum development team. The team consists of diverse representatives from BMA (Indigenous Consultative Body), academics, teachers of Elementary School, Junior High School and Senior High School, and Department of Education of Rejang Lebong. The pedagogic introduction of Rejang culture and language to the students allows them to familiarize with their own culture and native lingual environment as part of Rejang language. However, various things arise in the implementation of local curriculum namely the matter of teaching material as to be taught in local curriculum as well as human resources or teachers who will be assigned to teach the local curriculum itself.
